Anzu was founded in 1999 by Ellen McGrath, producing stationery and desirables. Anzu, which means apricot in Japanese, was chosen as a name after an inspiring trip to Japan. Every Anzu creation begins with a thoughtful hand-painted illustration and is then printed and finished to high specifications. Anzu's exquisite hand-painted illustrations are created using gouache, a watercolour favoured by Persian and Indian miniature artists. The delicate illustrations featured on all Anzu products are inspired by everything from Japanese kimonos, 1920s jewellery, Russian illustrator Bilibin, fashion designer Paul Poiret to tropical plants.

With an emphasis on a decorative, hand-painted look, Anzu products and Ellen's work have been featured in various publications including The Times, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, The FT, Marie Claire, Brides and Sky Wedding TV. Anzu's loyal and continually evolving customer base include some of the best retailers in the world such as Harrods, Kensington Palace, Mitsukoshi Tokyo, Berlin's Quartier 206, Papyrus in the US and sell to shops across Europe, the US, Canada, Japan, Australia and Korea. Ellen has also had exhibitions across the world including Mitsukoshi Japan, Hankyu Japan, Harrods, and Museum of Art Seoul. We create each of our products with love and love to hear from our customer. So if you have bought or received an Anzu product and have a special story we'd love to hear from you!
